About Summer
Sanders exploded onto the scene of the swimming world during her tenure at Stanford University before continuing on to dominate at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Now a mother of two, she has taken her knowledge of the sport outside the pool as a commentator for NBC's Olympic coverage and will be covering the London 2012 Games for a new outlet, as well.
Athletic Achievements
- Most decorated U.S. Olympic swimmer in 1992 winning two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze at the Olympic Games in Barcelona in women's 200-meter butterfly, women's 4 x 100 meter medley, women's 200-meter individual medley and women's 400-meter individual medley respectively
- Three-time gold medal winner at the 1990 Goodwill Games
- Earned back-to-back NCAA Swimmer of the Year awards in 1991 and 1992 as a freshman and sophomore at Stanford – her only two years of collegiate competition – where she amassed six individual NCAA titles and four relay championships
- Led Stanford to National Championship in 1992
- Member of U.S. Swimming Hall of Fame, Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame and Stanford Hall of Fame
Sanders' Approach to Nutrition
- Sanders is a big proponent of breakfast, never skipping the morning meal.
- She also enjoys eating breakfast food throughout the day and snacks on cereal often.
